As the gateway to Victoria’s infamous Great Ocean Road, Torquay – which is located 21 kilometres (13 mi) south of Geelong – is an extremely popular tourist destination for those who want to visit a seaside paradise. Bordered by Bass Strait, Spring Creek, Point Danger and Zeally Bay, Torquay is at the heart of some of the Garden State’s most beautiful scenery. The fact that the town is also home to the world famous Bells Beach and home to the Rip Curl an Quicksilver brands is a definite bonus too!

Speaking of Bells Beach, the town’s surfing culture is alive and strong, with many surf competitions being held – such as the Rip Curl Pro – in Torquay / Bells Beach and the Surf Coast Shire, which includes towns such as Winchelsea, Anglesea and Lorne. The area’s beautiful sheltered beaches are perfect for families or inexperienced surfers, while Jan Juc Beach and Bells Beach are perfect for the more experienced board riders. Torquay’s surfing history can be explored at the Surf World Surfing Museum, while surf wear fashionistas can shop their hearts out at Surf City Plaza or the Baines Court surf seconds outlets.

The town is so much more than a surfer’s mecca though – set out on a tour of the Great Ocean Road or visit the nearby quaint little towns. Grab a fishing rod and try your luck or don some snorkelling or scuba gear and explore the underwater wonderland of Point Danger Marine Sanctuary. Take in the views on a walk around the headlands or indulge in a spa treatment before enjoying fresh produce and delicious wine at one of the amazing local restaurants. Whatever you do, expect to come away from Torquay feeling relaxed, energised and grateful for such a beautiful location!
